How Your Mental Health Can Affect Your Weight Loss
I have been watching My 600 Pound Life for many years and I have watched some of the episodes so many times, I know what the dialog is. I am always surprised at the fact that someone is so messed up on the inside that they will allow themselves to get to the conditions I see on the show. But, as several clients have said, people cannot always see drug addiction, and other additions that people have but, you can always see a food addiction and to add insult to injury, we need to eat food in order to survive. It's too bad that some people are not able to control their food intake, without help and sometimes drastic measures.
Most of the patients eventually have gastric bypass surgery and they lose a significant amount of weight in the long run. But, in almost every case, the weight loss slow down, stop and sometimes they begin to gain weight. Dr. Nowzaradan know his job and he can predict with almost complete accuracy, what is going to happen. When the weight loss slow down or stop, the patient is advised to go to psychotherapy sessions to deal with what the real cause of the initial weight gain was about. After a session or two with a therapist and getting to the root of the problem, the weight begin to come off, again.
The bottom line is, there is an underlying, psychological reason most people allow themselves to eat and eat until they weigh 600 pounds, or more, and without therapy, it is a problem that cannot be solved without some type of help - either from a doctor or a psychiatrist.
